Okay to be completely honest I'm not fully satisfied with the book but at same time it isn't that bad. It depends really (considering I have a pretty dark mind so I was kinda expecting more) I mean it's not boring as I read this in one sitting and gave it 4 stars.

This will appeal to any fans of psychological dramas and thrillers, especially those with damaged characters and a plot that has you trying to work out the twists you know are coming. A great read and 4 huge stars from me! After what happened in London, Kirsty needs a fresh start with her family. And running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains sounds idyllic. Kathryn, her cold and bitter daughter, resents Una’s presence. More disturbing is the evidence suggesting two girls lived here before. What I liked about Do Not Disturb is how the story slowly unravels the real threat in the story. The author is even able to make me think that this is a horror story starting with the old house turned into a B & B with all its sinister history, what with all those mysterious and creepy threats to the family, the noose, the dead flowers, the misplaced stuffs around the house and the angry stares of the neighbors.

Something Bad happened to Adrian when he and Kirsty and their two girls lived in London, so never having run a business before, they decide to buy an almost derelict property in Wales and, once refurbished, open it as a B&B. Why? Because Kirsty is Welsh and loves Wales. What better reason could there be. So this is Mistake Number One. Asking Kirsty's domineering and controlling mother for a loan is Mistake Number Two, thus allowing her to move in and be a not-so-silent partner. Mistake Number Three is letting Kirsty''s cousin Selena, a woman she hates and hasn't spoken to for seventeen years, to come and stay. Married couple Kirstie and Adrian move to the Brecon Beacons in Wales with their children Amelia 11, Evie 6 and their grandmother Carol to run a newly renovated B&B. They moved from London hoping for a calmer pace of life after Adrian suffered depression and walked out of his stressful job. If I see one more book with the review/tagline of "for fans of Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train" I am purposely going to not read it. So there. I had high hopes for this book. The synopsis sounded great and it being a British psychological thriller I couldn't wait till this book came up on my list. Sadly, this book did not live up to the hype. (It was chosen as a winner for Marie Claire fiction contest and Good Housekeeping also recommended it).Absorbing and chilling...." reads the blurb, and "....thrilling finale". Oh good, I thought, a chilling, thrilling read..... Abi has moved to Bath to try & make a fresh start in life after the devastating death of her identical twin sister Lucy. She meets the very colourful Beatrice (who reminds her so much of Lucy) & her twin brother Ben and this is where things start to get really interesting. It's full of secrets, deception, lies and manipulation which makes for a completely absorbing read! Prima cosa: se volete leggere un libro di Claire Douglas, vi consiglio "Local Girl Missing", che è un vero e proprio thriller e mi è piaciuto molto come l'autrice ha strutturato quella storia. A sort of Agatha Christie mystery with the usual secrets and lies that make a good whodunit. Just didn’t make it as a brilliant thriller (for me). I enjoyed reading it but felt it was all a bit predictable, even the ending.

I wasn’t overly attached to the characters, so I think that’s why I was slow to really get into the book. I can’t put my finger on why, they were complex and felt realistic, but something just stopped me from overly caring for about half the book. The major problem I have with The Sisters is that it reads like a creative writing task, and one that was rushed to meet a deadline. To make matters worse, for the first few chapters I was convinced I’d been reading a teenage novel and only a sporadic use of the F word reassured me that it had not been the case (although these days you can’t tell). The juvenile voices of the protagonists and the nature of the intertwined relations of all the housemates of Beatrice’s house turned, what should have been ‘tension’ into a twisted sixth form drama: girl inadvertently causes the death of her twin- girl meets another twin and attempts to rebuild the bond she had lost- girl moves in with the twins- girl obsesses first with the female twin then also the male twin- another flatmate is in love with the female twin- the female twin obsesses with her male twin… you get the drift. The storyline itself was so gripping and the characters were equally as interesting as they were confusing. I liked Abi, although she very clearly and very obviously had a lot of issues. There was quite a strong but subtle mental health element to this book: the main character having suffered depression, suicidal episodes and other issues. It was never forced in your face but it was there and as someone who suffers from and advocates for mental health, it was good to see. I also noticed the different reactions from people towards Abi and her mental health problems – past and present. It was a good representation of how people act in real life; how supportive some are in comparison to others. Humming with anxiety and friction, The Sisters keep readers guessing as to who is doing what to whom until the very end...[A] gripping psychological debut' SHELF AWARENESS I read this in one sitting: staying up late into the night to finish always a sign of a good read that in my opinion. Not too sure about this one. I finished it a couple of days ago and waited for it to ‘settle’ in my mind. Did I enjoy it? Yes, but… Humming with anxiety and friction, The Sisters keep readers guessing as to who is doing what to whom until the very end…[A] gripping psychological debut’ SHELF AWARENESS
