You read the script, discuss what you think about certain aspects, talk about the general look of the film, and obviously do research," she explains, "which we did by going round estates in Glasgow. The look of Trainspotting is drawn from real life but very much exaggerated. And it's quite stylised, which makes it more interesting than just documentary style.” Greatest Brits vote from channel4.com/film". London: Channel 4. 2004. Trainspotting: The Definitive Edition [DTS] [DVD] [1996]

Renton finds his sex drive has returned and goes to a club with his friends, where he meets a young woman called Diane. They leave together, go to Diane’s apartment, and have sex. Renton stays the night on a couch, and is horrified the following morning when he discovers that Diane is actually a fifteen-year-old high school student. He tries to put the incident behind him but Diane has a different idea—she threatens to tell the police that they had sex if he does not stay in touch with her. Meanwhile, Tommy and Spud also have a terrible night: Tommy’s girlfriend freaks out when she finds out that he lost their porno and Spud gets too drunk, passes out, and defecates in Gail’s bed. While PolyGram is concentrating on global domination as far as world distribution is concerned, one territory that has escaped their grasp is the US, where the film will be released in July 1996 through Miramax. The trio's pilgrimage to America to show the film to the powers that be there has been a big success. "I think they were really surprised by it," reflects MacDonald. "They bought it before they'd seen it, thinking they couldn't lose and even if they did, it would still be worth it for the relationship they could have with us - and get us to do an Elmore Leonard novel or whatever it is they want us to do there. But when they saw it they realised it could really be something.” December 1995 Further investigation reveals a nice pile of props that includes everything from candles to spacehoppers to, bizarrely enough, a dustbin lid in the shape of a smiling frog. “I found that outside a junk shop in Glasgow. It was part of a rubbish bin," she smiles. "There were actually rubbish bins like that around Glasgow in the mid-’80s."One, at Charing Cross underground station in London, turns out to be 100 feet long. With Boyle, MacDonald and Hodge's work on Trainspotting now over, bar the promotional interviews, their attention is turning towards the imminent pre-production period of their third feature, A Life Less Ordinary, which is still undergoing script dilemmas. "It's a romantic comedy with nasty bits," says MacDonald. "Actually, it was a romantic comedy," grins Hodge, "now it's a Chainsaw Massacre movie.” Boyle stated he would be more interested in directing a true sequel rather than a spin-off, preferring to work with all of the principal actors. "My affection is toward all four of them", Boyle said. "People regarded the first movie as being Renton's movie, and I never really saw it like that, though he does dominate because of the voice-over. I always saw it as an ensemble movie, so I'm still very much in that mode." [33] Howie, Michael; Schofield, Kevin (13 January 2009). "Junkies reunited as sequel gets go-ahead". The Scotsman. Just hours after the final take, McGregor, Carlyle, Bremner, Miller and Kelly MacDonald are hauled into a Bayswater studio for a day's photography. The pictures are snapped by Lorenzo Agius, a photographer who has made numerous contributions to Empire in the past. August/September 1995 For better or for worse, T2 is incredibly similar to its predecessor. I love the original Trainspotting and really appreciate Danny Boyle's approach to making each and every scene artistic. Once again, his use of lighting, color, camera angles, and editing shine through without distracting from the plot. Speaking of which, the screenplay was very strong for such a delayed sequel. Because the source material takes place 20 years after its predecessor as well, T2 feels natural, unlike many sequels and rehashes made today. The performances across the board are strong, and every character went through strong development as we learn about what has happened in the 20 year gap and how it is effecting their lives today. Spud was the most intriguing character to me this time around. His character is the easiest to cheer for in a gang of misfits and petty crooks. Jolly, Mark (August 1996). Producer Andrew Macdonald read Irvine Welsh's book on a plane in December 1993, and felt that it could be made into a film. [12] He turned it on to director Danny Boyle and writer John Hodge in February 1994. [13] [14] Boyle was excited by its potential to be the "most energetic film you've ever seen – about something that ultimately ends up in purgatory or worse". [13] Hodge read it and made it his goal to "produce a screenplay which would seem to have a beginning, a middle and an end, would last 90 minutes and would convey at least some of the spirit and the content of the book". [14] Boyle convinced Welsh to let them option the rights to his book by writing him a letter stating that Hodge and Macdonald were "the two most important Scotsmen since Kenny Dalglish and Alex Ferguson". [12] Welsh remembered that originally the people wanting to option his book "wanted to make a po-faced piece of social realism like Christiane F or The Basketball Diaries". [12] He was impressed that Boyle, Hodge and Macdonald wanted everyone to see the film and "not just the arthouse audience". [12] In October 1994, Hodge, Boyle and Macdonald spent a lot of time discussing which chapters of the book would and would not translate into film. Hodge finished the first draft by December. [12] Macdonald secured financing from Channel 4, a British television station known for funding independent films. [13] Casting [ edit ]
