I bought my iQ7 primarily to cover CES 2018. While you can use the microphone with the iPhone’s built-in camera app, I brought along my old iPhone 7 Plus as a dedicated audio recording device. The show floor at CES is loud, so I wanted to make sure my microphone was as close to the audio source as possible. All of my recording was done indoors, but if you’re planning on recording outside, Zoom includes a small removable windscreen.

Note that the above microphones are my top choices when connecting directly to an iPhone. However, plenty of mics on the market will outperform the above 4 if we properly adapt them to connect to an iPhone. For this article, we'll discuss the 4 best mics designed for use with the iPhone. My first impression was that this is rather cheaply made. Where the speakers attach is pretty flimsy & allows for a bit of give. However after a few uses, I now feel that it was done intentionally & is perfect! The give in the soft plastic could really save the lightning connection from being snapped off. This omnidirectional mic has a frequency response between 30 Hz – 20 kHz. It clips directly to the speaker, interview, etc. and sound natural and clean. Like any lavalier microphone, ensure the mic is not rubbing against the speaker or his/her clothing, which can cause unwanted noise in the mic signal.
