EditSynopsis In a world ravaged by ice and snow, civilization is on the brink of collapse, thanks to the elusive Ice Witch. Fighting against the cold has brought out the worst in humanity, leading to cults, violence, and the persecution of the "Blessed"—those born with supernatural powers. Judah decides to try to kill the seemingly immortal Agni by throwing his severed head into the ocean, taking a train there. Also on the train is Togata, another regenerative blessed, and twisted cinephile who has taken an interest in Agni, aiming to make him the subject of a film as director. Togata kills all the Behemdorg soldiers on the train, saving a girl named Neneto from being raped and making her camerawoman. Agni agrees to let Togata film his revenge on Doma in exchange for training. Fire Punch, Vol. 7". Viz Media. Archived from the original on January 25, 2021 . Retrieved March 29, 2019. Meanwhile, Agni calms Togata down, as they had been planning to abandon him after their secret was revealed. The two reconcile and Agni declares he is going to confront Doma, which Togata is eager to record for their film. They find Doma, now caring for a number of children, and after a brief conversation, Agni resolves not to kill him so as to end the cycle of vengeance. However, he is overcome by his memories of Luna's death, and ends up killing Doma and many of the children in a fugue state, recorded by Togata. Upon awakening, Agni tries to kill himself by walking into a lake; Togata drags him out, but catches on fire in the process and dies. Hundreds of years later, Luna remains in the tree as the branches spread out to ever more distant stars. Millennia pass, and she wonders to herself if she will be trapped there forever. She watches the Earth below her destroyed by an asteroid. Millions of years later, when the universe is now dead, Sun joins her there, and although they do not remember each other, they embrace and then fall asleep. a b "Fire Punch, Vol. 8". Viz Media. It reminds me quite a bit of Hokuto no Ken but edgier in that regard. You have an insane unjust world in a setting where humanity is dying out, but here comes an incredible hero who nobody can stop. It's nothing especially unique, sure, but a pretty good setup for a short action story. Fire Punch, Vol. 5". Viz Media. Archived from the original on January 25, 2021 . Fire Punch unique, and are why I rate it a 6, but you have to decide that for yourself. Many people try to ascribe a lot of different themes to this manga, themes that I don’t necessarily agree with. On its face, it’s wholly nihilistic, depressing, and little room for redemption, but that can be what draws you to it. There's nothing to take away here, just a bunch of episodes that allow fans to try and ascribe deeper meaning or value to the writing. Fire Punch — Interview with Tatsuki Fujimoto]. Another example is Agni's whole role in this. It starts with revenge, but shortly after, the author plays pong with his motivation, what does he want, what does he live for, what does he value, and what does he hate? All these things just get flipped around for the sake of convenience. The two fight one another, resulting in Sun burning to death. Luna, having recovered some of her previous memories, destroys half of Agni's brain, allowing him to regenerate with no memories as she had done previously. She then entrusts the care of the amnesiac Agni to Neneto, before allowing herself to complete the tree ritual to thaw the planet. This section's plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed. civilization and burn down Agni's village, his sister, and himself for the crime of cannibalism, even if it was in the form of eating endlessly regenerating limbs that Agni provided. He is then doomed to burn and suffer for a long ass time as his endless regeneration counters eternal fire.
