Now I realise that this must be, for sure, transformer hum, as both these amps have theirs onboard (two, in the case of the H10). But, the X6's is external. That response is very poor in high frequencies, dropping from 5 Khz on by as much as 5 to 7 dB. We should see a rule flat output. So better pair this with rather bright headphones to compensate. As for other noise(s); I've not noticed anything. This, at least, suggests to me that the DAC-X6 isn't particularly sensitive to computer generated interference, via USB. Output Power 6.35mm Headphone Port: 940 mW @ 16 Ohms, 900 mW @ 32 Ohms, 700 mW @ 64 Ohms, 450 mW @ 120 Ohms, 200 mW @ 300 Ohms. The first of them is a move to a Sabre ESS9018 DAC chip. The next one is the added Bluetooth connectivity that the original X6 didn’t possess. All the usual digital inputs are present too. To cut things short, here’s the full list of features:I'd like to say that the FX6 Dac/Amp is more comparable in power to 200mw / 32Ω like the FiiO E10k and not as stated in the specs for the product that has it showing as 910mw / 32Ω!

FX Audio DAC-X6 review - Prime Audio Reviews

What happened was this: the tonal balanced didn't really change at all, or it happened so imperceptibly that I can't tell the difference. But! The amount of detail doubled. Or tripled. Suddenly there is so much happening everywhere. So much air. So much detail. And it is a very smooth thing, too. There is no harshness to anything. You just find layers upon layers of texture in the instruments. The bass might be a smidgen more controlled than with the OPA2134, but it is very close. Your Music Dream!” A bit on testing – I used 320 Kbps FLAC files for audio, played through MusicBee. My headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros have a V shaped sound curve, with slightly recessed mids and higher treble and bass, meaning that they are quite bright headphones. Reliability was excellent under Roon without any failures using default settings. The only downfall it had was ignoring the volume control level in Roon. So if you rely on that for your volume level for your system, i.e. have no pre-amp, then you can't use this DAC. Hopefully this is a firmware limitation and can be fixed.

FX-Audio DAC-X6 MKII follows the suite of its predecessor by using a sturdy aluminum case with a brushed finish. It grew in size, however, probably to accommodate the new BT feature. Given the asking price, I’m still as impressed with the build as I was with the original one. The X6 comes with an OPA2134 opamp. I liked it so very much, that I felt silly switching in the LME49860 that arrived today by China Mail. I think I paid 2.30USD for it. (Keeping it real here, no snake oil extravaganza at these prices.) I felt silly, because the sonic balance of the OPA2134 (in combination with my modded T50RP) was so on point, that I couldn't really fathom how it good get any better. When I switched to the E10k and activated the bass boost switch the E10k actually did give more oomph and bass to the headphones. (For example explosions in games)I will be using this unit on my other PC so I am ok with keeping it. I will update and/or give a more lengthy review in the future.. The FX-Audio DAC-X6 is a headphone AMP and a 24 bit DAC. With an AMP, you can power high impedance headphones, and a DAC converts digital sound into analog – essentially smoothing out the stepped digital signal. You can learn much more about this in the brilliant article that can be read here. What can I say, even at 32khz the drop off in high frequencies is not as high as I expected and the drop is moved upwards when a higher sample rate is used, as I expected. By the way Marantz stopped designing DAC’s after the HD-DAC 1 I think because they know it’s no use designing something around DAC chips who look extremely good on paper but color the sound to stand out in the market. The High Res audio thing is just marketing. To compoare it with visual technology the latest DAC’s it’s like designing a monitor not only with RGB colors but also ultraviolet light. It’s useless. You can’t see it but it hurts your eyes. Same with the latest DAC’s…. Front panel buttons are old fashioned toggle switches but they have a solid, reassuring feel. There is an on/off switch which I like and a button for selecting one of the three inputs.
