Of course, as a pair of gaming earbuds, you’d expect the additional features of a microphone, in-line controller, and customization. In-ear monitors focus primarily on sound quality and save expenses by not adding all the extras. So, how do the HyperX Cloud Gaming Earbuds fair in terms of sound quality?

There are two ways to connect the Cloud MIX Buds to a device: 2.4 -GHz wireless and Bluetooth. Both are fairly straightforward — the wireless dongle is already paired to the earbuds, so all you should have to do is plug the dongle in and the earbuds will automatically connect when you remove them from the charging case.

I still would’ve preferred the braided nylon cables that are common in gaming headphones, but the rubber material of the cable seems sturdy enough. Over time, its color will probably fade though. These are in-ear earbuds with silicone tips. My ears aren’t particularly small — they’re solidly medium-sized — and these earbuds were just a little too large to feel comfortable right away. They didn’t hurt, and they weren’t falling out, but they felt overwhelming in my ears. They don’t actually go inside the ear, but rather they sit just over the ear cavity. My ears weren’t sealed and there’s no vacuum inside, but this doesn’t pose much of a problem. According to the NPD Group, HyperX was the Number 1 PC gaming headset brand in retail for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. And that wasn’t the only milestone it hit in 2016, when it surpassed its 1 million sales mark. I found the cable to be quite unique. It’s flat and sports a bright red color. It definitely stands out and helps give that gamer edge to the overall design.
