The increased DX3 Pro+ amplifier performance is very helpful in sending both low impedance IEMs and less efficient full-size headphones to full throttle with a good amount of headroom to spare. With the +6dB low gain setting, the ADX5000 is already at normal listening volume at -31dB. The D30 is quite resolving for the price point and while it cannot compete in technicalities with higher tier models, it still is capable and technically adequate especially when it comes to soundstage, which sounds expanded, spacy and quite holographic. The headphone amplifier section on the EX5 is rated for significantly more power with a 3W output rating into a 32Ω load. However, both DAC/Amps can easily drive most of my headphones to sufficiently loud levels. Design With an option for Bluetooth connection, the A30 makes for a comprehensive solution as an integrated amplifier.

My initial sound impressions are based on the single-ended RCA outputs of the D30. There will be a subsequent section for the headphone amplifier section. SummaryDigital signals fed to the device are all converted to analog through its two ESS ES9068AS DAC chips handling each channel with MQA decoding made readily available for all digital inputs except Bluetooth and I²S. As I’ve said before, it slowly pressed the brakes with all my headphones, it is not exactly visceral and impactful sounding. It is slower paced and even a bit muddier in here. When I’ve added a SMSL SH-9 to the chain, things improved considerably and all those limitations were never found again.
