Meyer’s idea that our thoughts have the power to shape our reality is well established in the field of psychology and our culture. I usually prefer the hardcover Bible so that I can highlight and underline to my heart's content, but I can definitely see myself using this electronic version in study and in church because I like the additional information her version provides (through Battlefield of the Mind) as a supplement to my Life Application Study (NIV) Bible. But for those of us who are leaders, whether in the church or simply in our homes, what we don’t see with our physical eyes is far more important than what we do see.

Satan will aggressively fight against the renewal of your mind, but it is vital that you press on and continue to pray and study in this area until you gain measurable victory. Therefore, Meyer argues that the only way to truly take ownership of our lives is to first take ownership of our thoughts. I was particularly convicted on a number of issues and made aware ( by the Holy Spirit ) of strongholds within me that need to be dealt with. We are taking notes and filling notebooks and thinking that because we are writing things down, we are really getting it. I mentally skip the offensive punctuation, but it is really annoying to have to do it every few lines, sometimes multiple lines in a row.Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. The old cliché from the early days of the computer — GIGO, garbage in/garbage out — is still true today.

At a certain point in my Christian experience, I made a startling discovery: I had an enemy of God in me. I found myself writing down most of the scriptures she pointed to, taping them to my mirrors, and learning that a lot of my problems come from a bad/negative attitude of my own volition. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. He has been working in and through his body for two millennia, and you can save yourself a lot of time if you will avail yourself of the whole tradition. Joyce Meyers' portrayal of what a "normal" brain should be like would be discouraging to people like me, who are constantly reviewing and reflecting.
