About this deal

The slow build-up of light tells your body to reduce the production of sleep hormones such as melatonin and increase wakeful hormones like cortisol. Instead, there are 16 million colour combinations and various schedules so the lights will turn on and off to suit at specific times during the day. When we chose to to read before going to sleep, we found it very calming to have on our bedside table, instead of relying on a dimmer switch. The gradual sunrise starts 30 minutes before the alarm time and there are ten levels before the brightest kicks in. It makes it a great lamp for those working from home more than those getting ready to leave for work.

The Beurer wake up light represents very good value for money and gives you plenty of options to make sure you're awake and rise in good time. Although the light has a radio function, that is just an added bonus and not something to shout about as there's no DAB, and the FM reception was sometimes fuzzy. Although the display can’t be completely switched off, there’s a handy button at the back of the lamp stand that alters display brightness, and there’s a touch snooze button on the lamp’s top that gives you an extra nine minutes of sleep. It looks more like a speaker than a clock, with the time on a small screen at the bottom rather than a bigger one in the centre.

Beurer WL 50 LED Mood Light Alarm Clock Sunrise Simulation

The new Beurer WL 50 wake up light helps to wake you up gently, in harmony with your natural sleep rhythm. The birdsong doesn't sound quite as natural as we'd like, but the light effect is impressive, and can be set to occur in reverse when it's time for bed. Overall, I enjoyed using the Beurer WL50 Wake Up Light, which did pretty much everything I needed it to. You can set the light to gradually dim from white to yellow, and then red, over the course of 15, 30 or 60 minutes. We are a big fan of the Shine 300, not only for its style credentials although we can’t help but admire its universal chic grey hue. There's an option for mood lighting as well, which allows you to choose a specific color to illuminate your room.

The Lumie Bodyclock comes in five shades with wonderful names like charcoal, paprika and turmeric – otherwise known as grey, red and yellow – and design wise it fits in perfectly with bedroom decor. Some of these are rather strange (waking to the sound of a steam train is an off experience), but there are lots of calming options as well, which can gently fade in to ease you into wakefulness. It's the little touches that set the Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 apart from the competition, including its auto-dimming display that darkens itself at night, a quick setup process, and customizable light levels. The clock display and buttons sit in the light’s centre, and their illumination can be switched to low or off if you find them jarring.

There is also FM radio where you can adjust the channel and volume with memory space so you can switch between your favourite channels at a touch of a button - there’s even an Aux input and a cable included. This and other Beurer products will be showcased from 12 to 15 November 2018 at MEDICA in Hall 10, Stand D20. This clock is a particularly good choice if there are two people needing to wake up at different times, as it has two distinct and very useful alarm settings.
