You won't be left with no data, however: when paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth, the G-SQUAD GBD-200 adjusts distances captured by with the watch’s acceleration sensor using smartphone's GPS, similar to how some of the more basic Fitbit fitness bands track outdoor positioning.The display includes calories burned, a step tracker, interval timer, and lap timer to keep your daily exercise on track. The watch does not have a heart rate sensor or its own GPS, but it can take data from your phone or another device for this. The iconic square form of the very first G-SHOCK, now with an accelerometer, distance measurement, and Smartphone Link functionality. The multiple buttons on the case are set at different angles to make pressing them more natural, especially when wearing gloves, and the overall design mimics the look of an aircraft’s joystick.

The G-SHOCK MOVE app also simplifies certain watch operations by letting you perform them on your phone screen. The watch took some knocks and got pretty grubby when I did some garden work, so I washed it off under the tap, and now it looks as good as new. It keeps track of your daily physical activities such as running, walking or more specialised workouts.

I’ve worn it every day for more than a week now, and not once felt the need to take it off because it was annoying or too hot.

The screen has a “negative” look meaning it has a black background and a grey color for the text and numbers. The G Shock GBD 200 tracks your steps, measures your running distance, and calculates the calories that you burn. There are five in all, with the ones on the side controlling the software, and the front button for activating the backlight. The battery can be replaced either by yourself if you have the tools and the knowledge to make sure the water resistance is retained, or by taking the watch to a specialist.The GBD-200 meets G-Shock’s usual toughness standards, so it’s shock and vibration proof and is water-resistant to 200 meters.
