Renn's mother is Seshru, a Soul-Eater and the Viper Mage, but she only tells Torak late in the series, in Outcast. Fin-Kedinn and some of the Raven Clan make the journey North and save Renn and Torak, and bring them back home. Renn is saved by a young Narwhal clan hunter named Naiginn and, when Torak and Wolf catch up to them, she reveals that Naiginn is actually her half-brother. Since Wolf Brother first came out, I’ve been amazed by the intensity and creativity of readers’ responses – and now here is the place to share them. Torak finds out that Tenris is actually his uncle, and the man known as the Crippled Wanderer who created the demon bear that killed Torak's father.

Wolf Brother takes place six thousand years ago during the Middle Stone Age, and tells the story of twelve-year-old Torak, a boy who can talk to wolves. The prophecy states that the Listener, who "talks with silence and fights with air", will offer his heart's blood to the World Spirit and thereby kill the demon-bear.
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness is a series of historical fantasy novels by the British author Michelle Paver; her first books for children. Suspecting who this new Leader might be, Dark leaves camp with Fin-Kedinn's blessing to find Torak and Renn.Fin-Kedinn also reveals that Torak's Fa was killed because he was the foremost enemy of a group of rogue mages, the Soul Eaters, who turned to evil in their determination to rule the clans. Naiginn wants to use the power of the Edge of the World to allow Renn to break his curse, but the proximity of flames (counter to Naiginn's nature as an ice demon) weaken him. After days of difficult work during which time other Clans join them, the First Tree finally reappears, restoring hope to the Forest. Again Torak must brave the far North to find her, until his quest leads him to the Edge of the World, and its too late. Naiginn had created the myth of the Skin Takers, faking their cries and convincing the Chosen Ones and the subdued Deep Forest Clans that only he could defeat them.

Eager to finally be free, Naiginn tricked Renn into believing she had almost killed Torak in the Forest, knowing she would follow her mother's path to the Far North where he could make her break Seshru's curse. As a cub his fur is grey, but as he matures his pelt molds into a golden grey tinged with white, with gold fur around his shoulders. She is proficient with other weapons but is not particularly good at skinboating, mostly from lack of experience. In the announcement she mentioned that she seriously started thinking about it during a visit to arctic Norway, but that it had always been on her mind since finishing Ghost Hunter. Most reviews were very positive, commenting on Paver's imagery, humour, and descriptive writings style.In the past he was best friends with Torak's father and his brother Tenris, both of whom were ambitious to become mages.
