Little White Lies was established in 2005 as a bi-monthly print magazine committed to championing great movies and the talented people who make them. Not only is the font they’ve chosen to use on screen jaggy and low-resolution, like something you’d expect to see on the screen of a Commodore 64, but spelling mistakes and wild mistranslations abound. This follows a black-and-white skit, knowingly framed as an idiot’s guide to JLG, in which Eurotrash host Antoine de Caunes goes full Belmondo. To put it more simply, it’s a 30-minute magazine-format programme covering all manner of alternative and surreal topics.
But it also featured regular segments with a variety of well-known celebrities, including a number of prominent art-house directors. The maker of the film throws tons of gratuitous nudity at us to try and make us forget its diabolical nature. It’s honestly like the subtitling was done by a bot, the kind of quality you might expect from Youtube live captions. Controversy rages over whether it was Jess Franco or Jean Rollin who directed the movie, either way, thy should be highly ashamed of themselves. I always will be sad about Lolo Ferrari, she died so young, I know she was there to be sexy, I always felt a bit of sadness about her.De Caunes and Gaultier being the ‘dream team’ of presenters, sort of a French Morcambe and Wise, but with Eric wearing a skirt/kilt. Let two devil-may-care Frenchmen take you gently by the hand and lead you into a surreal alternative world of weird wonders, celebrity interviews, sexy supermodels - and more smut than you can shake a stick at!
