There was the unique sports aspect of her being the only female player on her college football team.I accidentally read the second book before this one, but I didn’t love this one quiiiiiite as much as Blind Side. although i preferred the third one… i read this one after i read Quarterback Sneak, so maybe that’s why it didn’t hit the right spot for me, but it was still pretty good! While I understood Riley’s feelings for Zeke in the beginning, she can be prickly at times, and even though normally that would throw me off, I found myself being highly entertained by the tension that builds within the story. He was so vulnerable when he was explaining the pressure from his parents, the accident, and his learning disability to Riley. i wanted her hatred for him to last longer and slowly disappear throughout the book, — but in a split second, she went from despising him (understandably so) to wanting him.

I love how Kandi gives us a female college footballer in Riley, our determined, sassy, and loyal heroine. This should be a comfort, but Riley blames Zeke for her brother's accident so while they're roommates and teammates, they still aren't friends.A beautiful but heartbreaking in parts love story between Zeke and Riley who have known each other for years as he’s her twins best friend, an accident tears them apart and this friends to enemies to lovers book is about acceptance and forgiveness and football.

Insert Fair Catch for me, because yet again Kandi stole me with her dialogue and her imagery, and I desperately wish I could relive it for the first time all over again! And like any addict will tell you, it didn’t matter that I knew in the back of my mind that we were playing with fire. While this story starts out in a serious vein, for the most part, this is a light, fun, and super swoony story.

Though Riley struggles with forgiveness and makes some snap judgment in the story, Kandi always humanizes her- this is a young woman figuring out how to navigate unusual situations, with her own head and heart in constant battle. There was also that little bit of miscommunication when she assumed he didn’t want anything more than sex between them so she put him in the fuck buddy zone before even giving him a chance to talk and say that he wants more than that. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. I love that even though she’s doing this because it was what Gavin asked of her, Riley loves her position with the team and she’s not going to let anything or anyone stop her or step in the way of her achieving her dreams.
