The Tobermory Distillery has kicked off its Sinclair Series of bottlings with a brilliantly flavoursome Ledaig single malt, which has enjoyed a finishing period in Rioja wine casks! Opened this with a friend and we could barely hold a conversation as each time one of us took a sip we had to stop to say how good it was.

A cracking single malt that proves Islay isn't the only place to get your hands on splendidly peaty whisky - the Tobermory distillers on the Isle of Mull also know their way around peated malt for sure.This is one that will often start an argument - even among Scots - but we are sure that even the good men of Tain will agree with our pronunciation - Glen Mor-un-jee. We offer a large range of touring pitches with all of them having electric hook up points (10amp supply). This is a vintage, 17 year Ledaig that has been matured in a combination of American Oak and Moscatel wine casks. Peated and unpeated whisky from Tobermory – Mull’s only whisky distillery – was once used for both Ledaig and Tobermory.

At the start of the 19th century Ledaig had a good run, but by 1837 fell on hard times and was subsequently mothballed for 41 years. Originally however, the name of Ledaig was used for this Isle of Mull distillery when established in 1798 by John Sinclair. Using peated barley from the Port Ellen maltings (around 37 ppm if you're interested) this is a bold and punchy whisky that belies it's light and delicate appearance. Like all the whiskies produced at Tobermory Distillery, this is non-chillfiltered and natural colour. Another interestingly named distillery, deemed unpronounceable for non-Scots when first produced as a single malt, it's bottling name was changed to the Singelton.
