About this deal

The lens focuses by moving the entire optical assembly, with a maximum increase in length of a mere 3mm. It’s built and feels super solid with a metal exterior that works well with both the OMD EM5 and the GH4. even though I'm not considering the 14mm) and wanted to see if the community here had anything to contribute.

and an aperture ring which works on Pany bodies, and comes with a very useful, though quite bulky, lens hood. But I take video once every blue moon, and never with the 20mm mounted, so that's probably okay by me.

is an epic lens and going through my catalogue of images it was notable that a great deal of my most loved images were from that lens. Despite this the 20mm is still one of our favorite lenses, due to its winning combination of small size, high all-round image quality and excellent low-light capability. However, that isn’t a pancake lens and if that’s what you’re looking for then the Panasonic offering really can’t be beat. And when it comes to image quality with this lens, we’re sure that most folks won’t really complain about it if they’re shooting RAW or if they want a very film-like look. As far as slow AF goes, I have my 11-22 PDAF 4/3 lens on a CDAF body to give me a bit of perspective. Software that supports ProRes RAW is required to edit RAW video recorded with ATOMOS Ninja V+ or ATOMOS Ninja V. The slow a/f doesn't bother me one bit, but then, I've come from 50 years of manual-focussing with Pentax SLR's.

Out of the camera images tend to look like film due to the lack of contrast and slightly muted colors. I find myself carrying that combo around even when I don't expect to make any photographs, which of course results in making some unexpectedly nice ones every now and then. The gallery is filled with shots screaming for a short macro and the landscapes and people shots could be done nicely a bit wider. Context is key, and Roger provided a good deal of it so taking his numbers out of context to reach a singular conclusion kinda does them a disservice. Considering that this is a very typical Micro Four Thirds autofocusing lens, all you really need to do is mount the lens to the camera, point, shoot, and enjoy the images.

If you need portability and telephoto pulling power, the Micro Four Thirds format is an appealing option. In comparison to other lenses, we have to admit fully and outright that we’ve seen sharper offerings from Olympus at close focal lengths like the company’s 25mm f1.

In our tests, we used the lens a lot on the streets because that’s what we feel it would be best for. It is easy to match colors between the footages recorded with Panasonic Varicam, EVA1 and GH5 series cameras to combine them. Panasonic GH4- The GH4 is the company’s flagship camera and it focuses incredibly fast with this lens. When you couple this with its great build quality and focusing abilities you’ve got yourself quite the winner.

I have been exclusively using manual mode around a month since I became an enthusiast photographer, four years ago. From discussions I have read the optical design of the 20mm is the reason for its sharpness and also for the slow focus. Image quality seems to be a bit of a toss-up between the two, although on these forums it seems like the 15mm garners more praise. You're always ready for whatever inspires the photographer inside you – everyday scenes, passing landscapes, indoor shots in dim lighting, casual snapshots, or artistic shots.
