I own a few wargames because they do play well solo (playing both sides), but for the most part I have moved on from wargames. is also just a couple of decks of cards which I love to have as a solo game, although it is not quite as portable as it could have been (more on that later).

Unfortunately, revealed Maquis are removed from your deck, and you likely won't be able to use them for the rest of the game. The effect on the left of the card is its hidden one, which is generally less powerful but means that you card will get shuffled back into your deck at the end of the turn. You are an investor who teams up and creates a company with one of the exciting, visionary inventors. After the Spanish Civil War, a group of loyalists to the Republic continued the armed struggle, forming resistance groups better known as "Maquis". stars – A brutally punishing solo experience showcasing tight hand management with a focus on toppling a rising regime. However, if you use it for the effect on its right, you will be able to take advantage of its more powerful side.

Once players have finished playing their plan cards to either the hidden or revealed areas, they then must choose one of the four mission cards to attack. The mission deck is built randomly prior to the game, with 4 missions from the first era of the resistance, followed by 3 missions each from the second and final eras.Robberies, sabotage, assassinations… all were a part of the efforts devoted to undermine the regime. Let’s be clear – this is what happens when you put a risk-taking maniac in charge of the resistance who sends out his Maquis one time too many… or is successful at completing missions but manages to get a bunch of civilians killed. There is one misprinted card in the original version – Adolfo’s hidden side should be a zero value rather than 2.

You know how many there will be; you just don’t know whether that lurking threat is a puny Guard or something more dangerous. Will you be able to Resist General Franco as part of the Spanish Marquis, or will you succumb to failure. Even the simplest Missions can go horribly awry depending on the threats and how the player has fared in previous rounds. Maquis effects during the Plan phase often help you navigate this lack of information, for example by flipping an Enemy face-up, or ready you for the worst by letting you draw extra cards or similar.Cards may also have a plan or attack action indicated, which is triggered during specific parts of the round. Your agents are already on their way, armed only with whatever little bit of planning you could provide them.

Once you’re ready to move out of the Plan phase, you’ll commit to the Attack phase and pick which Mission you want to attempt. But the threat of spy cards, which effectively do nothing but clog up your deck, are always in your mind. At the heart of the game is the tension between keeping your Maquis concealed from Franco or revealing them to unlock their full potential. For those who prefer a different approach, you can dig into the scenario book for eight standalone scripted games, as well as an additional three historic scenarios. On a turn, you flip over the top five cards of the Maqui deck and begin playing them in two phases: Planning and Attacking. Some of those who opposed Franco’s horrific dictatorship became part of the Maquis: guerilla fighters working to destroy his iron grip on the nation. The card interplay between perfect information and press your luck is the core mechanism you’re faced with.
