About this deal

Mack runs to help his son, but his relief upon saving Josh is quickly overshadowed when he sees that Missy is gone. Pastor Sean Cole of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sterling, Colorado, offered yet another critique appearing in Pulpit and Pen. Hell, why not go all Sesame Street and make sure we have someone in a wheelchair and HIV positive people represented! Starring Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer and Tim McGraw, The Shack tells the story of Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Phillips who suffers huge emotional trauma when his daughter, Missy, goes missing during a camping trip.

They tell Mack that there is a man the FBI has been after for years who abducts young girls and may be responsible. The Shack was written by a Christian father for his children, to help them understand his relationship with God. He is airlifted to a nearby hospital and drifts in and out of consciousness over the next several days.Brad Robison, a psychiatrist and family therapist who used The Shack in his practice, wrote The Shack Study Guide (Windblown Media, 2016) to assist his patients on their healing journey.

At the beginning the ever narrating narrator narrated (and I paraphrase) 'You may not believe in Mac's story here. She leads him to reflect on the meaning of judgment before showing him a vision of Missy on the other side of a waterfall, alive and happy in Jesus’s presence. Through Mack’s journey in the remote shack, the book explores understanding and accepting God, as well as forgiving and loving others. Mack had identified Missy’s bloody dress, found on the floor in front of the fireplace in the shack. The police in the film adaptation are convinced that Missy’s disappearance is the work of a serial abductor who has taken at least five young girls over the years, providing a link to the original killer but without using his name.Mack is able to save his son by rushing to the water and freeing him from the canoe's webbing but unintentionally leaves his youngest daughter Missy alone at their campsite. A new duet between Tim McGraw and Faith Hill was written and recorded for the film titled "Keep Your Eyes On Me" which is featured in the trailer. Young is assuming that our white Protestant values will be affronted by this depiction, making his novel all that more shocking and controversial. Experts descend on the scene, and soon they have enough evidence to find and convict the serial killer who killed Missy. I don't know that you would much care for the book if you were a total athiest, not atuned to the spiritual at all, but people of all spiritual and religious persuasions will find aspects of this book deeply worth pondering.

This author focused largely upon one of those areas where different denominations have varying beliefs -- free will vs.Paul Young was born a Canadian and raised among a Stone Age tribe by his missionary parents in the highlands of former New Guinea. At the end of the book there was a note from the author in which he said 'I had never tried my hand at creative writing before. If I may prove my case, do you think that humans were designed to live in the present or the past or the future? They challenge many of Mack’s preconceptions about God, focusing on themes of love and relationships rather than sin, punishment, and righteousness. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness.
