About this deal

Paramount Home Media Distribution has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, and Kyle Chandler. Jonah Hill, cast as Belfort’s business partner Donnie Azoff, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Watching this film can definitely turn your stomach at times, but it also serves as a cautionary tale in doing what it takes to get to the top. Could the same story have been told in two hours, instead of three, with no real damage to the overall tone, feel and message of the film?

The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used except with the prior written permission of The Digital Bits, Inc. Arrow Video is proud to present a director-approved 4K transfer (making its UK premiere) of this extraordinary ode to American excess, in a special edition as sleek and sharp as the Wolf himself. Whether whispered or shouted, delivered in a quiet room or amid the roar of a poolside bash, the expletive-laced lines are always clear and comprehendible. Jordan’s lawyer Manny Riskin (Jon Favreau) presumably counters with evasive maneuvers; by the time things are really bad Jordan’s lawyer is the surrender-faced Nolan Drager (Robert Clohessy of TV’s Blue Bloods). Overall, the image is wonderfully sharp, detailed and naturalistic, which, while possibly boasting a slightly darker and more aggressive contrast than the previous Blu Ray, should still please and delight long time fans of the film.Belfort is adept at convincing strangers over the phone that they have a need only he can fill, right now, by signing all their money into his care. As Saurel fields Jordan, Donnie and Nicky’s’ newbie questions about Swiss banking rules, we wonder how quickly he will find a way to steal all their money. Most of the women we see are objects to be used, like the party girl who allows her hair to be shaved off, proving that people will do anything for money.

It’s hard to believe that The Wolf of Wall Street, their most recent collaboration, was released eight years ago, but this re-release by Paramount on stunning 4k gives the film a well-deserved revisit, marking one of Scorsese and DiCaprio’s most shocking of all his films in terms of content.Glenn Erickson left a small town for UCLA film school, where his spooky student movie about a haunted window landed him a job on the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS effects crew. Cruder than GoodFellas, but with the samesense of wonder, Scorsese opens our eyes to a culture we may have read or heard about, but never experienced, and this vicarious immersion is an absolute blast for those who viewthe filmin its proper context. The year I turned 26 I made 49 million dollars which really pissed me off as it was 3 shy of a million a week.

They’re so disgustingly abusive, we’d happily grant the air crew license to shove them out the back door. The show disturbs this viewer, and it’s scary to know that much of the audience accepts Belfort’s values as Business as Usual. Jordan’s second wife Naomi is too smart to be considered a trophy catch; she initially seems sensitive but soon proves capable of repaying in kind the abuse she takes from her worthless Rajah of a husband. The next extra, and possibly the best one on the disc, sees film critics Matty Budrewicz and Dave Wain explore Jordan Belfort’s lesser known career as a low budget movie producer, going through each of the films he was involved with. Also coming that day are Quentin Dupieux’s Incredible But True (2022) and Robert Wise’s Audrey Rose (1977), each on Blu-ray only.Wall Street in the '80s and '90s was an exaggerated world and Scorsese tells Bellfort's exaggerated story in an exaggerated fashion. We can appreciate the 4K edge better when the show cuts to footage supposedly from 1990s television — the simulated NTSC looks as if it were filmed through a cheese grater. Scorsese shares his thoughts as well, and it's always a treat to hear this iconic director discuss his work. Either the oversized scale fits everything else in this bigger-than-life story, or an ocean disaster is the perfect action break from the intense drama.
