About this deal

This resource illustrates the vocabulary associated with diet and each organism's position in the food chain. As a teacher, the possibilities for activities in which students look through the eyes of different characters or even create their own versions of the book with different pairs are exciting. Gravett provides an amusing and cheery alternative ending to the story for those with a sensitive disposition - our aforementioned tea party.

And I just couldn’t think of a way out of it really but… When I’m doing picture books, I make tiny little dummies about this big so — with pens for drawings and I put the words in. It's not long before a sinister figure with sharp claws and a bushy tail starts to creep up on Rabbit. I was influenced by one of my favourite picture books Pat Hutchins’ Rosie’s Walk, where Rosie the hen is oblivious to all danger around her.WorldCat reports that Orange Pear Apple Bear is her work most widely held in participating libraries. She left school at 16 with GCSE qualification only in Art (grade A) and travelled Great Britain for eight years, living in "a variety of vehicles" and meeting her partner Mik. The repeated phrase “Monkey and me…” combines with animated illustrations that use few colors for great impact. One practical caveat: The book includes a removable letter and a removable library card, the type you stamp with the due date and sign your name on (remember those? Her first book, Wolves, was the winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Boston Globe–Horn Book Honor Award for Illustration. So I grew up in an environment where art was really important and it was never seen as a sort of second class subject.

I would also ask the children what they think about the illustrations and do an art project using pencils surrounding this book. Learn more about why some kids struggle, what effective interventions look like, how to create inclusive classrooms so every child can thrive, and much more. The story-within-a-story narration is intriguing and induces the desire to explore the book even more. It's Cedric's the little dragon's bedtime, but before he goes to sleep, there's just enough time for mum to read him a bedtime story.
