Evangelion veteran Tiffany Grant once said “There’s a lot of different interpretations, and they’re all true! That may sound plausible, but the reality is that this version is closer to what he had originally intended for the series, before budgetary and logistical issues scuttled his plans. Note that due to issues with music rights, the international versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion no longer include the closing title song Fly Me to the Moon, in any of its myriad variants; the credits now incorporate instrumental music from the soundtrack instead. Rather than an internalized rendition of the culmination of the Human Instrumentality Project that takes place within the minds of Shinji, Asuka, and Rei, The End of Evangelion shows the external apocalyptic events that are happening on a global scale.

The ambiguous nature of episodes 25 and 26 had upset many fans, and there’s always been speculation that the shocking events in The End of Evangelion were Anno’s revenge on them for complaining about it. The Rebuild films aren’t included, but they’re a sorta reboot so makes sense they’re sold separately. It’s something that escaped my consciousness till fairly recently when I noticed it was a favourite of a close friend. We know that the rights for the use within Japan are cleared (otherwise there wouldn't be "Fly Me to the Moon" in these releases either), but we don't know if they were willing to pay "that" amount or if they only had to pay much less for the use within Japan only. Even the grown-up characters are just as screwed - despite being Shinji's guardian and overseeing the strategies of the battles, Misato Katsuragi has her own personal issues.

Presented on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK, this groundbreaking, action-packed series from creator Hideaki ANNO has been hailed as one of the most important anime series of all time – a remarkable fusion of genres, and a powerful examination of the relationship between man and machine. Overall, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a mecha anime classic and responsible for rebooting the genre at the end of the 90s. The PA announcements throughout the show are often heard coming from one surround speaker or the other, and there are panning effects whenever vehicles, Evas, or Angels move around the viewer. And i loved the individual scenes where most of the budgets would go, even in titles where the animation was generally not that great.

I first watched Neon Genesis Evangelion in 2012 and it was a series that I had wanted to check out due to its reception and sci-fi concept. There’s a pleasing sense of texture, which is missing from modern digital animation, with the brush strokes still visible on the background artwork. To be fair though, Anno and Gainax did an amazing job with Evangelion and reinvigorated the mecha genre as a result. Of course that was almost certainly a byproduct of King Records simply concatenating the video masters used for the " Genesis 0:13" and " Genesis 0:14" VHS/LD releases when authoring the DVD, but it would've been nice if they would've put more than the bare minimum of work required to improve the viewing experience instead of leaving the terribly awkward on-disc sequence of TV Ep. While I didn’t exactly watch the series via legit means, it was still a series that kept me interested in the franchise even after finishing it.The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Some other (worst) case could be, that the rights holder is blocking it in general for international usage in connection with Evangelion because of lost incoming from previous releases. This standard edition Blu-ray contains the complete NEON GENESIS EVANGELION TV series, plus the films EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)² and THE END OF EVANGELION. The television series for Neon Genesis Evangelion consists of 26 episodes that originally ran in Japan from 1995-1996.
