About this deal

In addition to its sleek look, veteran APC40 users will immediately notice the enhancements that include an RGB clip-launching grid, reinforced fader design, revised knob lay out, and much more. The APC40 mkII features a 5x8 RGB LED clip-launching matrix, assignable A/B crossfader, 8 rotary knobs, 8 channel faders, and a send button for quick access to send busses.

The designers at Akai haven’t stopped at tweaking the APC’s form–factor and layout, they’ve also looked at integrating it a little further into the Live experience. The Apc 40 Mk2 is equipped with a standard midi remote script in Ableton Live, so you just need to connect it (see instructions below) to get it working. Hardware companions to music software are now commonplace, but when the original APC40 launched in the pre–iPad days of 2009, it was one of the first of its kind.In this tutorial you will learn everything you need to know about using the Akai Apc 40 Mk2 with Ableton Live.

Fonik’s Original range of stands have been expertly designed for your equipment, allowing you to play comfortably, whilst giving your studio a clean and professional look. One feature which has always seemed to be a missing link in the APC range is a lack of motorised faders. The faders can be quickly assigned to different functions with dedicated buttons, and clever use of a shift key allows the Mini to pull off a lot more than you might imagine for such a tiny device. You can also color code your clips with the RGB lighting for advanced visual organization, and use the Shift button and directional arrows to manipulate the scope of the 5×8 grid.Hybrid 3, by AIR Music Tech, is a virtual synthesizer for electronic musicians, DJs, sound designers, and music producers who love to get their hands dirty. As well as the shape change, the most noticeable change is that the MkII’s pads are now fully multi–coloured, upgraded from the MkI’s green/yellow/red. The original Akai APC40 is one of the rare breed of products in the computer music age to achieve iconic status.

These buttons can also flip the faders into different modes to control Pans, Sends and Devices, as well as the actual track faders. You can easily create midi mappings for Ableton, allowing you to access many functions of Ableton Live with your Apc 40 Mk2. On the one hand, that is a wonderful development, allowing users to colour-code different clips to their own taste, reducing the need to look at the screen. The MkII maintains my favourite feature, which is the control pots mimicking the 2x4 Macro layout used on the top panel of Live’s Rack Devices. APC40 mkII comes packed with a music production suite that includes a version of Ableton Live, two high-definition virtual synthesizers, and 5GB of professional samples and loops for immediate out-of-the-box music creation. The Apc 40 Mk2 from Akai is an incredibly versatile midi controller and is a powerful tool when used in combination with Ableton Live. Constructed from high-quality polycarbonate material, our cover provides exceptional durability, ensuring the longevity of your APC40 MK2. In line with recent versions of Live, you now have two Record buttons, one for traditional Arrangement recording, and the Session button for punching into clips in the Session view.

It’s a touch narrower, around 3 inches shorter front to back, and, as it has a completely flat profile, not as tall overall, by around an inch.APC 40 MKII comes with a copy of Ableton Live Lite in the box, so you can start making music and creating mixes straight away. What’s more, this pack also includes futuristic FX that will add flair to your productions, screaming synth samples to experiment with, plus a selection of epic synth loops designed to instantly get any crowd off their feet. The pads aren’t velocity sensitive, so even if Akai did offer a Note Mode, as found on the APC20, you wouldn’t be able to be very expressive with them.
