About this deal

If you go for the latter in Inis, more often than not you’ll win the battle but not the war, as you’ll have depleted your resources and units too much to claim final victory.

I think the takeaway is that Modules 3 and 4 have the potential to be the most polarizing, but in the case of my player group(s), this polarization was mild. From the wild territory silhouettes to the multiple miniature sculpts, Inis is an attention grabber. If you need to move your clans this turn, you will know what cards will be available to facilitate it. Games that hide the players behind a hand of cards or individual boards can often silo players in their own little worlds to maximize their own efficiencies.

The cards you’ll play have all the effects you’re thinking of – they let you add new clans to the map, move them around, and initiate battles. All the cards you draft and play are in service to your overall objectives of having your clans in the right position. There will be songs about this day, songs about the day peace prevailed, or songs to honor the fallen. Whether I’m the one stunned or jubilant, it’s always a fantastic moment to be a part of, and one that is remembered and talked about long after. Combat isn't the main focus of this game, there's time and place for it, and you can settle for peace at any moment.Hybrid games are all the rage, and this definitely blends a Euro-style card draft – and even some Euro concepts in its combat structure – with the distinct feel of a “troops on a map” game. Player D had been able to retain his exploratory Epic Tale Card and used it again, increasing the unoccupied tiles to five but further expanding. I often describe Inis as “Concordia meets Cosmic Encounter,” merging the elegance and strategy of the former, with the wild, unpredictable swings and overt antagonism of the latter.

If all players in the clash agree, the clash comes to an end and everyone gets to remain on the territory along with any units that were behind the safety of the citadel walls. For those who only play occasionally, though, or who are checking the game out for the first time, I’d say the base game is plenty. The game boards and trail start/end pieces fit on top, along with all three manuals with no lid lift. The defense is that the game’s abilities allow for reactive pivots more than most games of its type, and that climbing back into relevance is rarely – if ever – impossible.Whilst it may initially appear to be a war game (especially when played with just two players), it soon becomes apparent with higher player counts that a long protracted war will often leave those players affected at a significant disadvantage to the other players. Multiple paths to victory existed through these elements, for anyone able to muster the correct cards to occupy and spread to the right combination of territories. Players also have access to lead The most clever player will win and not the just the one who managed to draw the best card or go unnoticed. Inis’s highs are incomparably higher for me than the best most games can provide, and its lows are mitigated by the fact that I know I’m never far from grinding back to an epic moment.

Still, there’s probably value to be had here in talking about what makes Inis work for people that may struggle to get a larger group together for the event.I don’t disagree with this opinion, though I’ll point out that it’s splitting hairs either way, since we all largely enjoyed the expansion and each module.
