About this deal

You can use the other USB3 port to plug another external (preferably with independent power-supply) HDD Box and use it to backup the internal ones. GPIO users, yes you can use this case for projects but the sheer size and rather awkward access to the GPIO makes this far from ideal. A real-time clock (RTC) is also built into the case allowing you to maintain accurate time and schedule tasks. The install process worked with no issues but running the Python test script caused the Argon EON to lock up.

At this stage make sure you have a backup of your drives – just in case things go sideways keep the SD card intact until you are sure that everything is working fine. Tom's Hardware is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher.Seems to be quite a bit faster but some things changed like the USB ports being switched, which makes it impossible to use it with the EON because it would mean using the HDDs with a USB2. Looks like the screen corrupts when the fan's set below "100" and breaks entirely at the slowest speeds. It’s unreasonably loud and having it on all the time will quickly turn your office peace into annoyance.

For the software we followed Argon’s guidance and downloaded the latest Raspberry Pi OS, but we did deviate a little. I run Home Assistant and a few other apps in containers on the EON via Docker and Portainer within OMV.

The back edge is where all the ports are located and we see placeholders for the Raspberry Pi 4’s USB, Ethernet and a cutout for the GPIO. As my automation servers were moved to DeskPi Super6C Cluster – they have been not in use ever since.

This gives us the fastest OS available and removes any need for a desktop OS, this NAS will live on our network serving files, not pushing pixels. Experts in the field will have no problem getting it done, but troubleshooting NAS issues can be a pain, especially if you are doing things for the first time. Argon script to configure the display and fan profile lets you link the fan to the CPU temperature and drive temperature.Whilst Argon have rated the enclosure at 10TB per slot, 18TB drives have been used and tested by the Argon team - however we assume the more reserved 10TB per slot limit is to allow headroom to account for the vast range of different disks with different power consumption ratings in existence. I would like to replace the SD Card with an small SATA SSD for installing OMV (it this possible at all? All Rapsberry Pi Operating Systems (Raspberry Pi OS, Open Media Vault,Twister OS, Ubuntu for Raspberry Pi, etc. Instructions a bit vague, skipping a step: you *really* need to remove the rear IO shield before you try to shove the Raspberry Pi in. The OLED can display your IP address, CPU status and other functions required for the operation of your NAS.

Hidden under the plastic is an I2C OLED screen which, when setup, displays pertinent data such as CPU use, IP address, temperatures and storage levels. Since Raspberry Pi 4 comes with a 1Gbps Ethernet, I decided to take advantage of it and create a reporting system in NodeRED that will monitor and report when the ISP is not keeping the contractual agreements. This has worked well, but I would like to clean up my network a bit (less devices, more organized, less maintenance, less complexity). He is a creative technologist and for seven years has created projects to educate and inspire minds both young and old. More testing to do, however the table at the end indicates which of the items is fording the fan to be on, i. Argon has made use of the same passive cooling techniques that are used in the NEO and ONE cases, and a 60mm fan is pre-mounted to cool the whole enclosure down in case it gets toasty! I'm actually writing this up for Hackster right now, and spotted something I missed the first read-through: it's a four bay NAS, true enough. In this case the max HDD temp is 40 (which in my case is the NVME device), so the fanspeed is set to 25.
