About this deal

The VM95ML Microlinear gave the flattest frequency response of all with very little loss on inner grooves. If you don't have a turntable that can be adjusted to match the requirements of this stylus, you're probably wasting your money. I will listen to these both without A/Bing soon, so I can get an overall sense of the performances rendered by each. I was finally able to listen to the VM 95ML without the major distorting limitations of the Technics’ drive system and tonearm, though a mechanical-sounding rhythmic performance remained, along with slight smearing during full orchestral crescendos.

unique web browser id used to track data from Microsoft Bing and its services/functions connected such as Clarity. Microlinear is a modern geometry better than elliptical, and Shibata an old (1970s, for CD-4 LPs) but venerated long-contact tip shape produced by multiple grinds. I use 20kohm parallel resistance with vm95ml - AT-LP5x - Kenwood KA 880D -combo to flatten the high frequency bump, and I can tell you that most of my vinyls sound noticably better than their cd counterparts. I started off on the conical 'C' for about a year, experimented a bit with the nude elliptical 'EN' in the interim, and eventually settled on the microline 'ML' which I'm currently using on my main setup. The six, yes that's right Six VM95 Series models all feature Audio-Technica’s patented Dual Magnet design, which duplicates the “V”-shaped arrangement of the magnets in the cutter head and precisely positions the magnets to match the positions of the left and right channels in the groove walls. mil nude elliptical stylus mounted to an aluminium cantilever for enhanced sound reproduction and resolution of fine musical detail. The A-T's theoretical advantage here is having a microLinear or "ridge" shaped stylus that produces more precise groove contact and less inner-groove distortion instead of the Blue's elliptical one. The step up in sound quality is outstanding and inner groove distortion (IGD) and other distortions are virtually eliminated, compared to elliptical shapes.

I have the blue and love it so I should be able to tell the difference, yet I really can't with any confidence. The performance of the line contact stylus, will minimise the "inner groove distortion" as well as providing extended frequency response and maximise resolution in the medium and high frequencies of the record material.

The better tips progressively improve high frequency retrieval and imaging, especially on inner grooves, but they don’t alter basic presentation: look to tapered aluminium pipe cantilevers of AT’s more expensive moving magnets (AT530 upward) for a punchier and less bland lower midrange. All had a measured Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) of 24 degrees, close to correct 22 degrees, for low distortion of around 2. When i replayed the same test track using the vm95e, the channel separation is slightly better, the harmonic distortion is slightly lower probably due to the elliptical stylus vs the conical stylus, the treble and vocals all sounded more crisp.
