The book gives a whole page for each of the Major Arcana with a color picture of each card followed by the card meaning. Visibly brown bodies are interspersed here and there and primarily in the pentacles and wands suit, at least from what I noted. Walden pulls off bright colors, hyperactive line work, sharp edges, and allegrissimo pacing and yet is still able to convey dreams and slumber.

Because I felt that this deck was aimed primarily at quirky young white women with a diverse friend group, a couple of painful ex-girlfriends, and an old, knitted beanie somewhere in the back of the closet. I love trying out new tarot spreads, so I always enjoy when indie decks come with their own spreads, and these two work particularly well with the deck because they’re so well themed.

On the other hand, this specific spread cloth would be exactly what a college-age witch might appreciate for an altar cloth on a dormitory desktop. Inside is a triptych (three panel illuminated window), a velvet bag, reading cloth, sketch book, and a hardcover little white book.

If you’ve been a longtime fan of Tillie Walden’s comic illustrations, you all but must get her tarot deck. Judgement feels particularly like a dream, to me: “I was sitting and there was this person above me, and also a tree, but the person kind of was the tree? While the Minors were ultimately a bit simplistic for my taste, overall the deck is beautifully done. The Cosmic Slumber Tarot is a beautiful, cosmic re-imagining of the Tarot, the colors in this deck are just wonderful. Considering how beautiful and colorful everything else is, this piece of cardboard stuck out sorely.

There are several cards that, upon first run through, do not adhere greatly to the RWS system so many tarotists practice, and even for intuitive readers, I suspect there may be some curious glances as they determine what exactly is being conveyed. Rather, it conveys someone making a wish, but I leave feeling uncertain whether that wish will be granted. Of what does the universe dream” is a super interesting spread and I’ve never done one like it before.
