About this deal

What do you think you would like for your next Birthday? (Listen to students’ wish-list as you pull out your gift box.)

B. The Bible says failure in intercede for our brethren is a sin in the eyes of the Lord, (1 Samuel 12:23)We believe that God is the loving Father of all kids. It is HIS divine will that young people come to faith in Jesus Christ and find salvation through the Gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit to bring them to faith.

How much more will God do this for his children? We can count on him to give us, not always what we want or think we need, but what we really do need. The gifts that he gives are the best that can be given. We may not always recognize them as what we really need. But he knows us better than we do ourselves. He knows his plans for us and what we need to be prepared for them. And he knows our future and what will best equip us for success in that future. The Golden Rule President Nelson added, “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” 3 In this way, prayer is a type of work, but which is not bound by space and time. Which is why, of course, as you point out, it is silly to pray for something good to happen if we are unwilling to life a finger to help it take place. If we are not willing to be answers to our own prayers, we have no business praying about them. So it is not really, “Where is God?” but rather, “Where are the Christians?” Augustine: How these three differ from one another, I have thought good to unfold with this travail; but it were better to refer them all to instant prayer; wherefore He afterwards concludes, saving, He will give good things to them that ask him. A Young Person’s Guide to Knowing God

Matthew 7 is part of what is commonly called the Sermon on the Mount. It’s a description of the truly righteous life, an outlining of “the law of Christ” (1 Corinthians 9:21, ESV). When Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you,” continual prayer is in view (Matthew 7:7a). Prayer is how we communicate our needs and desires to God. Of course, God, being omniscient, knows what Christians need whether they ask or not, but prayer is the means God has chosen to bring about those answers (James 4:2b). In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. Here, once more, the words are absolute and unqualified, and yet are clearly limited by implied conditions. It is assumed (1) that we ask for good gifts--for "bread" and not for a "stone," for a "fish" and not for a "serpent;" and (2) that we ask, as Christ has taught us, in His name and according to His spirit. Otherwise we may ask and receive not, because we ask amiss. B. But we can certainly ask our earthly fathers with the assurance that we will receive what we ask for. Likewise, the Bible says God is our heavenly father.

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ ( G) will enter the kingdom of heaven, ( H) but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ( I) 22 Many will say to me on that day, ( J) ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ ( K) 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ ( L) The Wise and Foolish Builders ( M) Why is revelation so essential to our spiritual survival? Because the world can be confusing and noisy, full of deception and distractions. Communication with our Father in Heaven enables us to sort through what is true and what is false, what is relevant to the Lord’s plan for us and what is not. The world can also be harsh and heartbreaking. But as we open our hearts in prayer, we will feel the comfort that comes from our Father in Heaven and the assurance that He loves and values us. Ask Luz, Ulrich. Matthew 1-7: A Commentary. trans. Wilhlem C. Linss. Minneapolis: Augsburg Fortess, 1989. It is my testimony that this is the dispensation of the fulness of the gospel. We can enjoy the blessings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ in our lives. We have the scriptures widely available to us. We are led by prophets who teach us the will of the Lord for the difficult times we live in. In addition, we have direct access to our own revelation so the Lord can comfort and guide us personally. As the angel said to Alma, we have “great cause to rejoice” ( Alma 8:15). In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts ( D) to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, ( E) for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. ( F) The Narrow and Wide Gates The still, small voice is reaffirming, encouraging, and comforting—and many times that’s just what we need for the day. The Holy Ghost is real, and His impressions are real—the big ones and the small ones. Seek
