About this deal

Dyneema is the name of material they use in jeans. We now have a UHMWPE brand called Dyneema, a type of polyethylene (ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene). The world’s most vital, longest-lasting, and lightest fiber, it’s no wonder. Because of its slight weight and high strength-to-weight ratio, it can float on water. With the help of other rider gear, motorcycle jeans are a need. Riders who wear protective equipment around their hip and knees will be more likely to survive. When deciding, don’t forget about the armor or the pads. What you choose to buy will depend on what and where you ride, but make those choices based on honest information and –where available – proven test reports. James Dean’s K Fifty 1 Jeans don’t have complicated stitching or branding to give them a James Dean vibe. On long rides, the crotch bunching is no longer an issue.

The RST X Kevlar is a single-layer denim jean, combining denim cotton with abrasion-resistant DuPont Kevlar for a supreme blend of comfort, style, and protection. This unique fabric composition retains the exceptional protective qualities of Kevlar, including its tensile strength, durability and thermal stability, whilst offering the softness and casual look of a regular jean. In jeans, to achieve an AA or AAA rating, armour must be fitted at the knees AND the hips, but as to which is best… well, in all claims of safety, testing should be the final arbiter, so Level 2 offers the best protection. Some brands of armour achieve that with thinner materials than others, but it’ll come down to what feels comfortable to you, and what looks good. UK roads are often thought of simply as ‘asphalt’, which is about four times less abrasive than chip-seal, or surface-dressed roads. It’s the surface you’ll most likely find on the main arteries of our road network. With the use of Kevlar and other materials like Armalith, Covec, Pekek and UHMWPE –not to mention brand names such as Dyneema, Spectra and Cordura – while they’re potentially not as safe as leathers can be, a good-quality pair of motorcycle riding jeans can offer very good protection, while still looking great off the bike.

It’s a little strange that, considering how long people have been wearing jeans and riding motorcycles, the idea of riding denim is still relatively new. Nonetheless, we’re happy apparel manufacturers far and wide have developed jeans we can wear both on and off the motorcycle. In case you’re not aware of why this is important, allow us to fill you in. Your standard pair of Levis may be really comfortable, but regular denim is terrible at protecting you if you fall off your motorcycle. When denim meets asphalt, it shreds to pieces in seconds. Not to mention that it provides no impact protection to your knees or hips.

One of the most essential features of this motorcycle PPE is the carefully made thermal liner. They call thermal liner attachment tabs “ Tech Liner Connection“” in red to help you discover them. The thermal liner keeps me warm on lengthy rides and has no visible stitching. Single layer jeans (left) can be lighter and more form-fitting than lined jeans (right). Granted, I’m not the most stylish model. The knee armour is more prominent in this pair of single-layer jeans, but thinner armour is available such as D3O’s Ghost. It is important to note that these jeans should not be confused with the 2021 Oxford AAA-rated Original Approved jeans, which were recalled and re-labelled as AA-rated following extended independent testing.] Fit is very subjective, so it shouldn’t be something that decides your choice before you’ve tried something on for yourself. Consider where the armour sits, how high the waist is for comfort (and draughts) on and off the bike, and how long the legs are. Of course, abrasion resistance isn’t the only measure of safety – burst and tear strength is just as vital, which is why I think it’s important to go for AAA-rated jeans. What matters more than anything is that the armour is in the right place when you’re on the bike, and that it doesn’t move around.
