Sophie's parents died in a fire when she was about 10, and she was overall raised with the neighbor family, with which she works currently. Over her lifetime, her parents, a best friend, two fiances, and one "pre-engaged" boyfriend get killed and Sophie on some level thinks she's cursed.

And, I was sure I knew the mystery at the end, but I didn't - she surprised me again! The next time we called your father, we were aligned in a way. I cannot really explain it, but it changed for the better. We have the deepest respect for his unique skills of pottery handcraft, and as we started to sell lots of pottery, he found out that we have good design skills, Nis smiles. We already met Valerian who is of the Scottish family side who fell in love with Natalie over the love of golf ranges. Alasdair, a cousin of Valerian’s, meets Sophie when he, his twin, and uncles go to Natalie and Valerian’s wedding (Sophie attends as Tybo’s date).

In 1879 the company closed the smelters, putting 400 men out of work, and adopted the new process of crushing and roasting the ore. Tybo became less profitable as silver-rich surface ore at the Two-G yielded to greater proportions of zinc and lead. The Treadwell-Yukon Company revived operations in 1929, but the post office closed for good in October 1937. Few buildings but plenty of foundations survive, and Tybo still claims a few residents.

Yes the books themselves have a clear plot point, of them meeting this person and falling in love, that is resolved by the end of the book but they're so much more than that - there's usually a conflict, something keeping them apart or a dangerous situation that they have to solve and it scratches that mystery/thriller itch without being a full on murder series
