About this deal

In my experience, working scientists often get history of science wrong - in this case, as it's arguably more history of philosophy, I can't say whether or not Carlo Rovelli is straying far from what's known to make his point, but what he has to say about the Greek philosopher Anaximander from the 6th century BC is fascinating. Adnkronos (23 November 2022). "I Belladonna mettono all'asta come Nft un brano con Carlo Rovelli". Adnkronos . Retrieved 27 November 2022. Si parte da quello che l'autore considera il primo scienziato ante-litteram, Anassimandro, per allargarsi ad una riflessione più ampia sul ruolo della scienza e del pensiero critico. Premio Pagine di Scienza di Rosignano for the book Reality Is Not What It Seems: The Journey to Quantum Gravity [34] Anaksimandros’un çağının mitos’larından arınmış ve ancak çok sonra anlaşılabilecek saptamalarını ve daha da önemlisi insanlığın gelişiminde rol oynayan düşünce tarihinde nasıl bir devrim yarattığı üzerinde durulmuş.

I was looking for the author’s brief lessons in physics and spotted this book as well. To be honest, I thought this one sounded more interesting than the lessons book, so I grabbed it too. It’s a curious little book.Likewise, Plato’s rationalist dialectic has roots in dialogue and debate of a conceptual sort, and is embedded in his idealist metaphysic of “forms”, at best a distant kin to modern science.

Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations , because at first reading I could not make much sense of it, but I expected it to be a mine of ideas. I am slowly advancing into it, and this time it is not disappointing. Correspondingly, what comes after Anaximander is neither pure naturalistic science nor pure rationalism. The themes that Rovelli pulls from Anaximander’s thought and times are important for the future history of knowledge, but in various guises besides anything we would call “science” in a modern sense. their intelligence – this makes a huge difference for a speaker. In the Oxford audience I encountered many experts in the field my book covered and even one of the ambassadors I’d quoted Alan Lightman (14 May 2018). "Benedict Cumberbatch Meets Albert Einstein in Carlo Rovelli's New Audiobook". The New York Times . Retrieved 1 October 2019.In 2022 Rovelli appeared in the Netflix documentary A Trip to Infinity, [47] discussing the mathematical implications of infinity.
