The Great Bray-Shaman, Beastlord, Doombull and Dragon Ogor Shaggoth are all available as separate Hero kits. Tips on painting the Beasts of Chaos warband Due to the large flat areas on these miniatures, I decided to deploy the airbrush. This time I worked from dark green teal all the way up to light green teal with some fine edge highlights to finish it off. After some weathering on the metallics, they were done!
You can find all the rules and the stats for the Bladeborne Warbands in the Tome of Champion 2021, but please note that no update has been delivered to these profiles since the changes in the latest edition of Warcry. White Dwarf 477 added 4 more profiles from season 5 and White Dwarf 482 introduced the fighters from the last season (7) oddly skipping season 6 altogether. From White Dwarf 482 onwards, the profiles are those updated for Warcry 2.0 with the new style cards and sometimes reactions. This new fighter type comes in a standard version, the Centigor, and a Leader version, the Gorehoof. Like the rest of the Ogors, he has access to the Triple ability Bring Down the Storm, which lets do up to 6 damage to an enemy fighter within 20″ on a roll of 2+. As a Triple, if you have it with a value high enough, it is an interesting way to do some ranged damage at a huge distance. Not the best in the game, but Beasts of Chaos do not excel in ranged damage.
Lady Harrow’s Mournflight
When choosing your Beasts of Chaos warband, you have a lot of options. Sadly, two whole categories of fighter types are very rarely useful: I would argue that the Gors kit and the Dragon Ogors kit are outmatched in usefulness by the Ungors, Bestigors and Bullgors in almost every way, with the exception of the basic dual-wielding Gor because of its low cost. The Dragon Ogors can be viable with a Dragon Ogor Shaggoth Leader, but you still have other options that can do most of what they can do. First we take the Eightpoints, then we retake Azyr!: 1 Dragon Ogor Shaggoth as a Leader, 1 Dragon Ogor with Paired Ancient Weapons, 1 Dragon Ogor With Draconic War-Glaive, 1 Dragon Ogor with Draconic Crusher, 1 Ungor Raider Halfhorn as a hero. The Dragon Ogors were originally indigenous to Azyr, and these guys are planning to retake their homelands, throwing lightning and healing themselves as they gallop forward on their strange lizard legs. The Ungor Raider Halfhorn is there to use up the allowed points and for comic relief as he supports the Dragon Ogors with an arrow or two. He has always wanted to see Azyr with his own eyes. Different build options and how to buy the Beasts of Chaos warband Slakeslash is a Slaangor Fiendblood with higher damage (3/6) and wounds (22) and same ability to perform a bonus run towards a close enemy (remember that now costs a Double not a Triple). It’s been fun for me to learn a lot with new paints, different techniques and using painting guides, all of which I wouldn’t normally do when painting up an army for Warhammer Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000. Hopefully my journey inspires you to do the same with your own collection. It’s also a good way to have fun with Warhammer Underworlds when you can’t roll any crits!
Bloodcrazed is an extra Great Strength that works off of the target or equipped fighter being wounded. Really good.
Warscroll Battalion
This warband contains 6 fighters as I mentioned earlier in the review. They share the same inspire mechanic which revolves around having 2 or more enemy fighters out of action. It’s straightforward but heavily matchup dependent on whether it’s easy or difficult. Note: if you haven’t read the basic rules for Warcry before reading this article, it might be helpful to know that the game’s abilities are activated by using 6 dice that you roll at the start of your turn. Both the Ungors, Bestigors and Great Bray-Shaman are also part of the Start Collecting!: Beasts of Chaos box, so if you’re planning on branching out into the tabletop wargame as well, that’s a great way to get your Warcry roster filled.
