electronic nursing progress log (the NPL) which has been designed to support a process of clinical mentorship and learning in addition to recording competence achievement. Awarding institutions may use the NPL or develop their own recording systems. GCSE | A minimum of 5 GCSE A* to C, (or 9 to 4 where numeric grades are being awarded) or equivalent, to include English Language, Mathematics and a Science. Students should gain experience with a wide range of species however a clinical coach might judge competence using a more limited range of species. Your university will be very familiar with the process and should be able to advise you appropriately. Reflective comments are an essential part of the NPL. As well as allowing students the opportunity to reflect on each experience, good use of the reflective comments box can also prevent students from over-logging unnecessarily. As students head into the Spring term of their first year, we employ a blended learning approach to more specific placement preparation. This will include face to face briefings, a series of training videos for the Nursing Progress Log (NPL), presentations containing useful advice and guidance and drop in sessions for students to ask questions and go through anything they are unsure about. Applicants who believe they may be eligible for Accreditation of Prior Certificated and/or Experiential Learning (APCL/APEL) for certain modules will be considered on an individual basis. Many nurses who are APRNs also have a DNP, but you can have one without the other. An APRN with a DNP is considered a practicing doctorate. APRN EducationAn RN diploma is another route to becoming a registered nurse. Like the ADN, these programs typically take around two years to complete, and they both prepare students to take the NCLEX-RN. The main difference is that the ADN is a college degree while the diploma is not. Diploma programs are typically offered at hospitals but may also be available at technical or vocational schools. 2. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Simulations are also a very good way for the student to gain experience. However, these need to be carefully managed to ensure the simulation is as realistic as possible, and that it does not turn into a question and answer session. An ADN is a 2-year degree and is the minimum amount of education required to obtain a license to work as an RN, other than an RN diploma (See next section). Fact: the reflective comments box is there for students to include a reflective account i.e. feelings about their performance and the situation. It is not necessary to describe in detail how the activity was completed. A Doctorate Of Nursing Practice (DNP) is the highest level of nursing education and expertise within the nursing profession. DNPs work in nursing administration or direct patient care as advanced practice registered nurses (APRN). As thought leaders, DNPs also implement health policy and influence healthcare outcomes.

Whilst this new version of the NPL contains a reduced number of tasks, the actual requirements for completing some tasks are quite considerable. In our experience students can find this confusing, so guidance from the clinical coach regarding task expectations, (based on the case load in your practice) may need to be clarified.The highest level of clinical nursing is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), which is a nurse-midwife, nurse practitioner, certified registered nurse anesthetist, or clinical nurse specialist.
